Understand refunds, disputes, chargebacks, and evidence in Getme Payments
Review refund, inquiry, dispute, evidence, balance, fee, and payout-impact context for provider-backed payment workflows.
Getme Payments may show refund and dispute workflow context for Stripe-backed payment workflows. The available actions and final outcome can depend on the payment method, connected account status, country, currency, customer bank, provider review, available balance, and the current stage of the refund or dispute.
Before issuing a refund
- Confirm the payment status, captured amount, currency, and payment method before starting a refund.
- Check whether the refund is full or partial and whether the responsible balance has enough available funds.
- Review whether tax, discount, shipping, invoice, or order records need internal follow-up after the refund.
- Avoid promising the customer a bank arrival date, fee treatment, or payment-method-specific behavior.
What happens after a refund is started
After a refund is started, it is generally not something to treat as reversible. The refund is normally sent back through the original payment path where the provider and payment method support that behavior. If the responsible balance is not available, the refund can remain pending or require provider/account review.
Refund timing and bank arrival
Refund timing is variable. Provider processing, the customer’s bank, card network rules, payment method, country, currency, account status, and available balance can all affect when the customer sees the money. Use cautious language such as may vary or bank/provider-dependent instead of giving a fixed date.
When a customer opens an inquiry or dispute
An inquiry is a pre-dispute or review stage in some payment flows. A chargeback or dispute is more formal and can affect the responsible balance. The customer’s bank or payment network controls the review path, not Getme. The merchant should review the reason, deadline, payment record, customer communication, and order context quickly.
Evidence and response deadlines
- Collect evidence that matches the dispute reason, such as receipt, customer communication, fulfillment, delivery, service completion, refund policy, or refund record context.
- Submit evidence before the provider or network deadline shown in the workflow.
- Keep statements factual; strong evidence can help, but it does not make recovery certain.
- If the customer says the dispute was a mistake, still keep supporting evidence because the bank or network controls the formal outcome.
Chargeback outcomes and balance impact
A dispute can be won, lost, accepted, partially resolved, or moved through another review status depending on the provider and payment network. Funds and dispute fees can affect the responsible balance while the review is open or after a final decision. Getme can show context, but it does not decide the result.
Fees, negative balances, and payout effects
Refunds, disputes, fees, and negative balances can affect available balance and future payouts. The exact effect depends on the connected account setup, charge type, country, currency, payment method, provider rules, and whether funds are available. Treat fee behavior and balance recovery as provider/account-dependent unless a source-backed row confirms otherwise.
Refunds after a dispute starts
After a formal dispute or chargeback starts, a normal refund may not be the right action or may no longer be available through the same workflow. Review the dispute status first, then follow the provider-backed response path. Do not promise that refunding after a dispute will stop the dispute or recover fees.
